The Central Bureau of Statistics issued a press release last week indicating that Israeli tourists spent last year over US$3 billion abroad, 9.8% more than in 2006.
 
The CBS noted that spending per Israeli per trip ranged, on average, between US$900 and US$1,000.
 
Spending by foreign tourists in Israel totaled US$2.4 billion last year, 16.5% more than in 2006.
 
The report also noted that Israel's tourism industry grew by 5.4% last year and directly contributed 0.2% to the 5.3% GDP growth in 2007.
 
Tourism contributed 2.5% to last year's business product growth.
 
Hotel proceeds rose 14% in 2007, compared with 2006, and tourist overnights rose by 16%.
