The Central Bureau of Statistics said last week that thanks to the recovery in economic activity and the growth rate, unemployment fell to a three-year low in November 2004.
The Central Bureau of Statistics added that bimonthly trend figures indicated that the unemployment rate fell to 10% of the civilian labor force in November, returning to the level of October 2001. The CBS added that the number of unemployed in November fell below 270,000, and reached 268,900 in January.
Trend figures published by the CBS indicated that the number of unemployed peaked at 292,800 in October-November 2003. A spokesman for the CBS emphasized that trend figures indicated that unemployment in the 12-month period between November 2003 and November 2004 fell steadily, from 10.9% to 10%. Employment Figures indicated that unemployment is falling by almost 0.1% a month.
