Central Bureau of Statistics: Manufacturing production falls

CBS reported that manufacturing production fell 7.2% in July-September 2010.The leading indicator of the worsening economy was the Manufacturing Production Index, which fell 9.7%

The Central Bureau of Statistics reported last week that manufacturing production fell 7.2% in trend figures in July-September 2010. Excluding high-tech output, manufacturing production fell 1.8% over this period. The number of manufacturing jobs fell by 0.4%, although work-hours were stable.

Exports of goods and services were 8.5% higher in September than in August, reaching US$2.1 billion. Business services exports were 20.1% higher in September than in August.
Most of the drop in manufacturing production was in high tech.

The leading indicator of the worsening economy was the Manufacturing Production Index, which fell 9.7% in September-October.

The reversal in manufacturing production, particularly in high-tech industry, was apparently due to the emerging weakness in developed economies.
