Special service arrangements for container ships recently applied by the Ashdod port co. has ensured faster ships' turn round time and much higher container productivity.
 
In a statement issued last week by the port it was noted that shipping companies calling at the port have expressed satisfaction at the new arrangement noting that the service level has been kept stable, allowing the shipping companies to better plan their schedules.
 
Mr. Lai Yiguang, Cosco's Executive Deputy General Manager, recently wrote a letter to the port expressing the company's gratitude noting that the increase in productivity would enable the company to re-consider favorably its business activities in Israel.
 
Sami Niego, Carmel Shipping CEO, Cosco representative in Israel,said that "the shipping lines are delighted to work with Ashdod port. We keep our fingers crossed and look forward to even better labor relations which, after many years of labor unrest adversely affected the port services. The port has entered a new era of cooperation which will benefit the port its workers and the shipping lines alike"
 
Mr. Shuki Sagis, director general of the port, said that "the decision to apply the new service arrangement was taken in line with the port's service policy in which we focus on the benefits to the port's customers and have made a great leap forward in this respect." He added: "Our aim is to further improve service level".
