Ashdod customs inspectors succeeded last week to uncover a shipment of imitation pistols which were declared as toys.

The pistols, according to a statement issued by the Customs directorate, were found during a routine scanning of a container declared to have toys.

The statement noted that the customs took a decision to increase the numbers of inspections on toy shipments imported to Israel.

It added that in recent week the inspection of toys became harsher in order to prevent the smuggling of dangerous toys.

The imitation pistols are gas- operated pistols which comprises a frame having a handgrip and adapted to receive a magazine. The pistols use highly dangerous metal rounds.

A spokesman for the Customs directorate added that such imitation pistols can be used by criminals.
