Border crossing inspectors at the Kerem Shalom Crossing, between Israel and the Gaza Strip, and Shin Bet (ISA, Israel Security Agency) forces recently thwarted an attempt to smuggle drones into Gaza.
The inspectors, aided by intelligence from the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) confiscated a variety of camera-equipped drones which the Shin Bet suspects drones were meant to be used to gather intelligence on the IDF.
The drones were allegedly intended for terrorist purposes upon arrival in Gaza. Members of the Defense Ministry's Border Authority stopped the truck carrying the drones for an inspection at the Kerem Shalom crossing. The vehicle was an Israeli truck carrying a shipment of toys.
Upon inspecting the truck's cargo, the Border Authority officers found a number of drones of different models and sizes, equipped with high quality cameras.
The seizure of the drones thwarted what the Shin Bet said was the latest in a number of attempts to smuggle drones through Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza in recent weeks. Authorities confiscated the shipment and opened an investigation to locate the infrastructure behind the drone-smuggling attempts.
