Customs authorities of South Korea and Israel agreed last week on a mutual recognition (MRA) of their programs identifying secure operators.
The Korea Customs Service implemented a full-fledged AEO program in April 2009
Mutual recognition is one of the facilitations foreseen in the AEO program.
The MRA was signed by the Korean Customs Service Commissioner, Baek Un-Chan, and Moshe Asher, Director General Israel Tax Authority.
This agreement helps ensure that South Korea recognizes companies certified through Israel’s AEO program as safe, trusted companies; while also ensuring that Israel recognizes companies certified by South Korea through its AEO program as trusted. With this, it is expected that the number of inspections will be reduced and that South Korean customs will provide expedited services thereby reducing transit times and costs, making Mexican companies more competitive in the global market.
This type of agreement helps promote international trade by encouraging the establishment of safety standards for global operations. This in turn facilitates better market access and the development of safe and efficient supply chains. For these reasons the mutual recognition of AEO programs is a top priority for the Tax Administrative Service.
