Tax Authority, Customs Workers Ends Sanctions

The Histadrut General Federation of Labor announced that the Tax Authority employees had called off all sanctions.

The labor dispute which began last Sunday, as the three-year labor dispute escalated, intensified last Thursday.

Customs workers had closed the arriving passengers green line channel at Ben Gurion Airport. All incoming passengers had to go through the red channel. In addition, all imports by land, sea and air underwent "meticulous" checks, as the Tax Authority workers committee put it, creating heavy congestion at all entry points.

The daily value of goods passing through the customs service at Israel's main gateways is estimated at NIS 280 million. The sanctions caused heavy losses to exporters as well as importers who could not release goods to the local market.
