Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute chairman Shraga Brosh said last week that Israeli made do-it-Yourself (DIY) products are becoming one of Israel's most popular export lines.

Brosh said that DIY exports rose 47% in 2003 to $1.1 billion and predicted that DIY exports would double to $2.2 billion within five to six years, thanks to the great potential of Israeli DIY manufacturers. The annual global DIY market, according to Brosh, amounts to tens of billions of dollars.

According to Brosh Israel has over 400 DIY companies, including, Barkan Mounts, Kapro Industries, Keter Plastic, Nirlat Industries, Noa Plastic, Palram Industries, Tambour Trellidor, Vargas and ZAG Industries.

Brosh added that a growing number of Israeli DIY companies were gradually penetrating international markets, especially the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Eastern Europe, South America, and Australia.

A delegation of six Israeli DIY product manufacturers organized by Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute visited France last week to meet buyers for retail chains, agents and potential distributors. The delegation included six companies : Reshtoplast, Capro, Carkwest, Lotemplast , Chumi Plastic.

Two DIY chain stores operate in Israel Home Centre ( 44 outlets ) & Ace ( 24 outlets).
