Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz appointed last week Doron Arbeli, the head of Israel's customs directorate for a temporary period of three months as director general of the Tax Authority.
Arbeli took up the temporary position on Tuesday, replacing Mr. Yehuda Nasradishi. Nasradishi left the post last Monday.
Finance Minister Steinitz had told the cabinet and the Civil Service Commission that Arbeli would be tax commissioner for no more than three months, in keeping with the law on temporary appointments.
Arbeli has been at the Tax Authority for 24 years, most recently serving as the head of customs, where he oversaw 900 employees.
Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz is still looking for a permanent tax commissioner and intends to set up a new select committee to find one, after rejecting the recommendations of the last one.
