Israeli export to Jordan during the period January to September 2004 is up 50% compared to the same period last year. Total export reached us$95 millions compared to us$62 millions last year.
Mr. Gabi Bar head of the Middle East desk at the Ministry of Trade & Industry told the annual conference of the Israel-Jordan bilateral chamber of commerce that the significant increase in export is the direct result of Jordan's increase of export to the USA via the QIZ.
Jordanian government officials estimate that export to the USA will total us$700 compared to us$580 last year. Such an increase of export is largely based on direct purchase of Israeli made inputs from the Israeli textile and packing sectors.
The QIZ arrangement qualify Jordanian export to enter USA duty free provided the products are jointly made by Israeli & Jordanian firms.
Mr. Benny Gaon president of the bilateral chamber of commerce said that this year's annual conference was held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the peace accord with Jordan. On the occasion Mr. Gaon presented Mr. Gabi Bar with the chamber's appreciation symbol for his contribution and dedication to the development of trade relations between the two countries.
