Ambassador of the State of Israel to Azerbaijan Dan Stav said recently that the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) is a very important project.

It is not only a project of regional scale. It also has a global significance as energy remains the major source that human beings are depending on.

Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) involves the construction of a 1,850km-long pipeline to supply gas from Azerbaijan, which currently has gas reserves of more than three trillion cubic metres, to Turkey and Europe.

The pipeline construction was started in March 2015. The overall investment on the project is estimated to reach $11.7bn and is expected to bring more than 15,000 jobs. It will be one of the world's longest gas pipelines upon completion. The Ambassador emphasized “Europe is an important gas consumer, especially when concerns due to the global warming are on the agenda.

Gas is very important in this aspect. Azerbaijan has a strategic location in order to play an important role in supplying Europe, one of the important economic centers globally. We are watching with great interest the process of development of the SGC project. Israel will start producing gas for export in the coming years.

Accordingly, an issue of Israel’s joining in the SGC project, especially TANAP, will be duly considered. Therefore, the matter of energy is of the same importance for us.”

Dan Stav stated that Israel watches the economic reforms implemented by President Ilham Aliyev with a great interest. “We think that a decision about diversification of economy is important especially amid the oil price decline. Israel, as a friendly country, can also offer mutual cooperation in the field of development of small and medium business,” the Ambassador stated. He noted that there are lots of areas for the development of the Azerbaijani-Israeli cooperation.
