Israel has approved legislation that will extend Daylight Saving Time until Sunday October 27, 2013 at 2:00 AM local daylight time.

Previously, before the law was changed Israel was scheduled to end Daylight Saving Time on Sunday October 6, 2013 at 2:00 AM local daylight time.

The extended DST has had a direct influence on the public and has had a positive effect on the economy, commerce, leisure, energy conservation, health and road traffic safety.

According to the government committee which studied the issue, the new DST will save the economy NIS 300 million (US$82 million).

The average length of the DST will stand at 211 days, similar to the European model.
