Data published last Tuesday by the Turkish Ministry of Tourism showed that Turkey has become Israelis' number one travel destination despite the tumultuous diplomatic ties between the countries.

 

The number of Israelis visiting Turkey has doubled over the last year. Twice as many Israelis visited Turkey in August 2015 as in August 2014, and 30% more than in August 2013, following years of extremely cool relations.

 

In August 2015 there was an increase of 101% in Israeli tourists in Turkey compared to August 2014, during Operation Protective Edge.

 

It also represents an increase of 30% compared to August 2013, meaning that the steep rise cannot be attributed solely to a dearth of tourism during the conflict in Gaza. According to the data, 38,000 Israelis visited Turkey in August.
