The Central Bureau of Statistics reported last week that the unemployment rate rose to 6.9% of the civilian labor force in the second quarter of 2013 from 6.6% in the first quarter.

In the 2nd quarter of 2013, the number of persons in the labor force among persons aged 15 and over was 3.669 million. Of these, 3.415 million were employed and approximately 254,000 were unemployed.

Among the employed persons, 1.814 million were males (1.819 million in the 1st quarter of 2013) and 1.602 million were females (1.594 million in the 1st quarter of 2013).

The unemployment rate among persons aged 15 and over from the labor force, rose in the 2nd quarter of 2013 to 6.9% (compared with 6.6% in the 1st quarter of 2013). The unemployment rate of males rose to 6.8% (compared with 6.7% in the previous quarter), and that of females rose to 7.0% (compared with 6.5% in the previous quarter).

Among persons aged 25-64 the participation rate in the labor force rose to 78.8% in the 2nd quarter of 2013 (same as the 1st quarter of 2013). Among males aged 25-64 the rate declined to 84.3% (compared with 84.8% in the previous quarter), whereas among females aged 25-64 the rate rose to 73.5% (compared with 73.0% in the previous quarter).

Among persons aged 25-64 the unemployment rate from the labor force rose to 6.0% in the 2nd quarter of 2013 (compared with 5.7% in the 1st quarter of 2013). Among males aged 25-64 the unemployment rate rose to 6.0% (compared with 5.9% in the previous quarter). Among females aged 25- 64 the unemployment rate rose to 6.0% (compared with 5.6% in the previous quarter).
