Finance Minister Ehud Olmert announced last week the appointment of Jacky Matza Israel Tax Authority deputy director as Israel's tax commissioner.

Matza, a high official at the Income Tax Authority was appointed to his present position when the Tax Authority was founded in July 2004, after current director Eitan Rub consolidated the income tax and customs and VAT divisions into a single authority.

He will replace Eitan Rub who will be leaving the tax authority at the end of December.
Matza's appointment had been recommended by the outgoing commissioner, Eitan Rub.

Matza was a former deputy to then-Income Tax Commissioner Tali Yaron-Aldar, and earlier headed the Income Tax Authority’s investigations section.

Finance Minister Ehud Olmert said in a press release that Matza's first and most important missions would be to complete the process of combining the income tax and customs departments, which is under way.

Matza's appointment remains contingent on cabinet approval, and the vetting of the Civil Service appointments committee.
