Manufacturers Association's director general Mr. Yoram Belizovsky called early last week to members of his association to donate money or goods towards Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Following Belizovsky's call many Israeli companies and businesspeople announced donations of tens of thousands of dollars in cash or cash equivalents for Hurricane Katrina relief.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries ltd has announced a special $1 million donation. Intel Israel and other companies are considering offering to match donations made by employees.
Israel-America Chamber of Commerce and Industry's president Zalman Shoval said the chamber launched a campaign for donations from companies to aid victims of the hurricane.
Shoval said that dozens of companies and businesspeople had donated money and goods. He added that due to US not yet allowing Pharmaceuticals to be included in shipments for immediate entry to the US, Pharmaceuticals cannot be donated.
Sano-Bruno Enterprises ltd. donated disposable diapers, Mercury Interactive Corporation announced on Tuesday that it will donate $1 million, El Al Israel Airlines said it would allocate cargo space on special cargo flights, Flying Cargo, Federal Express’s representative Israel, has volunteered to help with logistics for deliveries.
Neviot donated 3,000 bottles of mineral waters and many other companies continue to donate.
