Israel Tax Authority (ITA) reported last week that imports of basic electrical and durable goods were down in September, compared with September 2005.
According to the report imports of VCRs was down by 82%, imports of clothes dryers was down 46%, and imports of television sets was down by 19%.
ITA noted that the import value in dollar terms of these household electrical items was down by 12% - 66%.
ITA also noted that cigarette imports was also down by 6% to 25 million packs, worth some $9 million.
Imports of home refrigerators was up 19% to 24,791 units. The dollar value of imported refrigerators was up by 14%.
Imports of DVD players up 23% to 39,905 units. The dollar value of imported DVD was up by 15%.
In the motor vehicle section ITA noted that imports of private cars was up by 4% in September 2006, compared with September 2005. ITA noted that in September 2006 9,752 cars were imported, worth $118 million.
Commercial vehicles imports was up 54% to 1,133 units. Imports of trucks and tractors fell 14% to 667 units.
Imports of motorcycles and scooters rose 46% to 1,367 units.
