Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic and Israeli Minister for Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Liberman, signed last Monday, in Jerusalem, an amendment to the trade and economic cooperation agreement as well as an agreementon customs cooperation. The agreements aim to increase economic cooperation between Israel and Croatia, which is in the advanced stages of joining the European Union.
The two ministers voiced confidence that the excellent political dialogue between Croatia and Israel would continue and that bilateral, multilateral and economic relations would further improve.
Jandrokovic and Lieberman said Croatia-Israel relations had been constantly improving since Israel opened an embassy in Croatia in 2005, which provided for intensifying cooperation and developing relations. The twoofficials highlighted tourism, energy and agriculture as areas in which Israel could invest in Croatia.
Mr. Doron Arbelli, the head of Israel's Customs Directorate noted that the new customs agreement will increase bilateral trade between the two countries removing trade barriers and improve existing trade channels.
Bilateral trade between the two countries in 2009 reached US$40 million, Israeli export to Croatia was US$25 million and import was US$15 million.
The Croatian Minister also visited the Yad Vashem memorial centre for Jewish victims of the Holocaust in Jerusalem.
