According to initial estimates by the Ministry of Finance the government deficit rose to NIS 3 billion in February.
The government deficit for the past 12 months, from March 2008 to February 2009 totaled NIS 20.2 billion and the deficit for 2009 is projected by the ministry to reach NIS 35 billion at least.
Tax revenues in February fell by 15.4% compared with the corresponding month of 2008, to NIS 13.5 billion.
In January and February 2009 tax revenues fell by NIS 5.3 billion to NIS 27 billion compared with the corresponding period last year.
