David Luxemburg, president of The newly rstablished Israel-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced last week that the chamber would mediate negotiations between the two countries on R&D in space.
Luxemburg said that several Israeli companies had shown interest in a joint Israeli Kazakh space program to launch an Israeli-built micro-satellites weighing less than 150 kgs from the Baikanur Cosmodrome. The proposed micro-satellites would be equipped with Israeli stae of the art technology for a wide rage of missions such as reconnaissance, mapping and telecommunications.
Luxemburg added that such a joint project could be worth millions of dollars. He noted that a Kazakh science delegation, headed by the Kazakh Minister of Education and Science Birganim Aytimova, astronauts and space scientists are currently visiting Israel to discuss details of the program.
