Israel's ministry of trade opens an economic interests office in Shenzhen

The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Labor and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute opened last week an Israeli economic interests office in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
 
The decision to open an interests office in Shenzhen follows the selection of China as one of four preferred target countries for Israeli exports.
 
Mr. Raanan Dinur director-general of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor said following the opening ceremony that the office would act as the Guangdong province branch of the Embassy of Israel in Beijing economic and commercial section.
 
The city of Shenzhen is one of the most important economic and commercial centers in China. The city which has a population of 7 million people was set up 25 years ago as a special development zone. Since then very many Chinese manufacturers moved their businesses to the region. In recent years there seem to be increasing activities in the high-tech sector with many leading Chinese names i.e. Skyworth, TCL, Huawei and ZTE setting up factories in the city.
 
Dinur added that if this model proved effective, additional offices in China would be considered.
 
According to the ministry the main purpose of the new office which is headed by a local representative, is to locate information and trade opportunities in the Guangdong area, to organize trade meetings between visiting Israeli and local companies, and to organize trade delegations between the two countries.
