The Central Bureau of Statistics ( CBS ) published last week its latest population report indicating that Israel’s population is projected to cross the 7 million mark in early March, reaching 7,006,000
 
The CBS noted that Israel’s population, the end of December 2005, numbered 6,986,300 a figure which according to the CBS reflected an annual growth rate of 1.7%.

In its population analysis the CBS revealed that 76% of Israel’s population is Jewish, 5.32 million, and 20% is Arab 1.4 million. 300,000 (4%) were of other religious.

The CBS also noted that the size of Israel's population is now larger than Ireland and Lithuania, each has a population of 3.9 millions, Denmark and Slovakia which both have populations of 5.5 million, Finland, 5.2 million and Norway 4.5 million.

The figures revealed also that Israel's population is now almost equivalent in size to that of Switzerland (7.5 million).
