The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reported last week that Israel's population, on the eve of 2012, stands at 7.836 million.

According to the end of the year report, the Jewish population, 5.901 million, comprise 75.3% of the total Israeli population. Arab citizens,1.610 million, making up 20.5%, of the population.

The report also noted that 4.2% of Israel's population, some 325,000 people, is comprised by non-Arab Christians and those citizens whom the Israeli Interior Ministry doesn't classify by religion.

The Central Bureau of Statistics also noted in the end of the year report that 2011 saw a 1.8% increase in Israel's population – 141,000 people. 166,800 new babies were born throughout the course of 2011, and about 17,500 new immigrants arrived at the country.
