Eli Ishay, Israel’s minister of Labour and Commerce accepted an invitation given by
U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and traveled to Jordan Feb. 10-11 to attend the Middle East and North Africa Trade and Investment Conference at the Dead Sea.
The conference was build upon President Bush’s January Middle East visit where he had highlighted the value of continued economic liberalization to create jobs, prosperity and hope for the people of the region.
Speaking in a session which discussed the development of regional trade the Minister noted that there were enormous opportunities for the business communities of the United States and Middle East and North Africa region to partner, trade, invest, and transfer and develop new technologies. This conference, he noted, was a timely opportunity to learn about major trade and investment opportunities in the region.
The conference attracted many leading businessmen as well as heads of large economic organizations, among which the Honorable Carlos Gutierrez, United States Secretary of Commerce and the Senior Commercial Officers from U.S. Embassies in Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.
