According to data released last week by the Israeli Vehicle Importers Association, based on the number of vehicle licenses issued, 2010 was a record year for vehicle sales in Israel with 216,430 vehicles sold, including taxis, up 25.3% from 2009.
In addition, 5,000 vehicles came onto Israel's roads after being personally imported by their owners.
For the 15th consecutive year, Mazda is ranked as the best-selling car in Israel. Some 31,819 Mazda vehicles were purchased during 2010 – a 1% increase from 2009.
Hyundai was in second place with 30,453 vehicles, up 50% from 2009, and in third place was Toyota with 22,289 new vehicles sold, up 21% from 2009.
Suzuki was fourth with 12,218 vehicles sold and Volkswagen was fifth with 11,514 vehicles delivered.
Mazda3 was the best-selling model in Israel during 2010, with some 20,000 purchases, while Toyota Corolla was ranked second with 13,700 purchases.
