The Israeli and Norwegian tax authorities signed last week an agreement providing for collaboration between the two states on matters of import-export regulations and fraud investigations

The signing ceremony was held in the Jerusalem offices of the Tax Authority, with Customs Authority Director Marit Wiig representing Norway and Tax Authority director Jacky Matza representing Israel. The agreement still requires government ratification in both states.

Israel has such bilateral tax agreements with about 20 states and is a signatory to 40 international tax conventions.

Mr. Avraham (Ami) Segal Head of Customs Directorate and Mr. Doron Arbely, Sr. Deputy Director General Investigations and Intelligence added that the agreement provides ways and means for closer co-operation in the prevention of smuggling, joint investigations and exchange in intelligence. The Agreement will improve flow of trade between the two countries and at the same time allow customs authorities focus on illegal trading.
