An investment seminar was held last week in Taipei under the sponsorship of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC) a private, independent, non-profit organization of leading commercial and industrial firms, financial institutions, business associations, industrialists, and businessmen in the Republic of China (ROC) of Taiwan.
The most unique character of the CNAIC lies in its promotion of international trade and investment.
Director of Economic Affairs at the Israeli embassy Mr. Hovav Refnoted that over 60 leading businessmen took part in the seminar including Mr. Theodore M. H.HuangChairman of CNAIC, Chairman of TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd & Chairman, Taian Electric Co., Ltd as well as representatives from Tatung and Chinese Petroleum Corp.
In a press release Ref said that the participants showed increasing interest in fostering trade relations with Israeli firms in general and in the medical, energy and communications in particular.
Mr. Amiram Halevi Director of Asia at the Foreign Trade Administration at the Ministry of Trade Industry and Labor added that in 2004 the bilateral trade with Taiwan had crossed the 1 billion dollar mark and reached $1.2b. Exports increased by 95% to $559m. imports increased by 33% to $561m.
Halevi added that in the first quarter of 2005 exports to Taiwan reached $139m an increase of 19% compared to the same period last year and import registered a 22% increase to $160 m.
