A trade delegation of 23 Israeli business people visited Peru last week as guests of President Alejandro Toledo.
Export Institute chairman David Arzi said that the visit which was organized by the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute ( IEICI ) was likely to generate deals totaling $5 million over the next 2-3 years.
Arzi noted that the forthcoming trade deals will be in joint agricultural ventures, agricultural equipment, greenhouses and irrigation systems.
The delegation met President Alejandro Toledo, the Peruvian ministers of Trade and Agriculture, and Dr. Daniel Schydlowsky, principle of Corporaciףn Financiera de Desarrollo (COFIDE), the Peruvian development bank.
In a statement issued by the IEICI Arzi said that 29 Israeli companies began operating in Peru last year, and that 165 were operating there now, 21% more than in 2003.The statement also noted that Israeli Industrial exports to Peru, excluding diamonds, in the first half of 2005 grew 40% to $10.8 million, compared with the corresponding period last year.
The trade delegation included representatives of several leading Israeli companies: Polysack Plastic Industries, Plastro Irrigation Systems, Verint Systems, Metal Tech, Merhav, Nirtal Security Consulting and Training.
Personal meetings with local business people were scheduled by the organizers in order to establish partnerships.
