Jordan's export in the first 6 months registered a drop of 50.8% to US$32.9m, compared to US$67m in the parallel period in 2008
According to official trade data published in Amman trade between Israel and Jordan declined dramatically in the first half of 2009. Jordan export to Israel in the first 6 months of 2009 registered a drop of 50.8% to US$32.9m, compared to US$67.0m in the parallel period in 2008.
Israeli exports to Jordan in the first half of 2009 dropped by 27% and totaled $68.2 million, compared to $93.4 million in 2008.
Jordanian authorities noted that the drop in trade can be attributed to trade union demonstrations against the trade in general and fruit and vegetable imports from Israel, in particular. Earlier this year 14 trade unions organized a protest against fruit import from Israel. Jordan imports from Israel wooden products, cosmetics, plastic goods and chemicals.
