Lynn said the shortage of raw materials was wreaking havoc on production lines. The dispute is over the state attorney's indictment of Health Ministry inspectors
Uriel Lynn, President of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, warned last week that delays in the release of foodstuffs from Israel's ports because of thorough inspection of imports will cause a shortage in stores.
Lynn sent an urgent letter to the Prime Minister asking him to bring the issue to the next cabinet meeting.
The release of goods is being delayed for over 7 weeks because of the more meticulous, and slower, pace of inspection by Health Ministry workers at ports and laboratories for imported foodstuffs.
The dispute is over the state attorney's indictment of Health Ministry inspectors at the port of Haifa and Ashdod, in the Remedia affair, which has, so far, delayed the clearance of essential imported food products for several weeks.
Lynn made it clear that the shortage of raw materials was also wreaking havoc on production lines.
An emergency meeting of food importers and manufacturers was held again in the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce last week, to discuss ways and means to lodge legal actions against those responsible for the delay.
