Lynn: government decision will bring an end to the food shortage

The release of goods is being delayed for over 8 weeks because of the more meticulous, and slower, pace of inspection by Health Ministry workers
 
Uriel Lynn, President of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for having taken the necessary steps to bring an end to the long delays in the release of foodstuffs from Israel's ports.
 
Lynn had sent an urgent letter to the Prime Minister asking him to bring the issue to the next cabinet meeting.
 
The release of goods is being delayed for over 8 weeks because of the more meticulous, and slower, pace of inspection by Health Ministry workers at ports and laboratories for imported foodstuffs.
 
The dispute is over the state attorney's indictment of Health Ministry inspectors at the port of Haifa and Ashdod, in the Remedia affair, which has, so far, delayed the clearance of essential imported food products for several weeks.
 
The government decided in its weekly meeting to direct the Justice Ministry as well as the Health Ministry to prepare a motion which will protect public employees from being sued for professional negligence while performing their duties.
