Uriel lynn, president of the israeli federation of chambers of commerce strongly protested against suggestions raised in government circles to increase protective duties on agro-industry products.
Mr. Lynn argued in a letter to mr. Ehud ulmert, minister of industry trade and employment and to mr. Yossi bachar, director general of the ministry of finance, that such an increase will not only act against the government interest but also will hurt the low income population.
Mr. Lynn emphasized that if the government decides to adopt the increase in duty and provides the ministry with green go ahead light, it will have a devastating effect on the cost of living index and will increase the production costs for local exporters.
