Minister of Finance Abraham Hirchson told reporters last week that in 2007 investment infrastructure and long-term projects in Israel will exceed NIS 20 billion.
Kobi Haber, budget director Ministry of Finance, added that government investment in physical infrastructure- construction and development, water, energy and transport, would be increased in 2007 by NIS 2 billion from this year’s performance estimate of NIS 18 billion.
Haber noted that in the 2007 state budget total investment allocated for physical infrastructure was NIS 9.27 billion, of which NIS 4.3 billion for roads, highways and mass transit, NIS 2.5 billion for railroads, and NIS 600 million for water and sewage.
The Ministry of Housing and Construction and Israel Land Administration (ILA) will invest additional NIS 1.5 billion for the development of several security / military infrastructure projects, new court buildings and other civilian projects.
Haber added that the 2006 infrastructure budget had been increased to NIS 9.2 billion from NIS 7.16 billion in 2005 and spent as follows: transport NIS 1.3 billion, railroads - NIS 550 million, housing - NIS 80 million, natural gas - NIS 60 million, and water - NIS 60 million.
