The border terminal through which some 700-1,000 trucks pass each month, was closed following ongoing civil unrest and high threat of attack
 
Due to civil unrest in Egypt, the Nitzana Terminal which serves as a border crossing between Israel and Egypt was closed. Nitzana Terminal is the main overland border crossing between Israel and Egypt, for cargo and goods imported from Egypt and exported through it.

Since 25 January 2011, violent demonstrations have occurred at locations across Egypt, including Cairo, Alexandria and Suez, resulting in injuries preventing officials to turn up at work. The situation throughout last week was unpredictable and fears were expressed that it may deteriorate quickly. Demonstrations occurred in any part of Egypt as well as the Sinai Peninsula.
   
The Nitzana Border Crossing is an international border crossing between Al Uja, Egypt and Nitzana, Opened in 1982.

 

The terminal is used for the passage of goods and cargo of various kinds, including: Food products (mainly to the Palestinian Authority area): Chemicals, Raw paper products, Cement and building materials, Seeds and grains, Frozen vegetables, Chilled fish, Textile products, Nylon products, Electrical goods.
