Israel is ranked second most educated country in the world, among OECD member countries in terms of the number of academics.
New Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) report places Israel in second place in terms of the number of its academics. The country in first place is Canada.
The OECD "Education at a Glance," report shows that Israel is ranked second most educated country in the world, among OECD member countries in terms of the number of academics.
45% of the Israeli population has a post-secondary education, the report found. Israel’s second place puts it ahead of many Western countries, including Japan, the UK, Finland, New Zealand and even the United States. The only country that ranked ahead of Israel is Canada, where 50 percent of the population has a post-secondary education.
Factors taken into account in the report include participation (how many adults have education, to what level, how many pupils drop out of high school ), how much is spent on it, and how education systems operate; for example, how much time kids spend in class.
The report also states that Israel’s rating is particularly impressive in light of the ongoing budget cuts in higher education between the years 2000 and 2008.
The report adds that Israel is one of only three OECD countries where spending on education relative to GDP has dropped between 2000 and 2008.
