The first ever Israeli government-OECD conference was held in Jerusalem last Tuesday, with participants discussing how Israel can reduce bureaucracy and improve service and regulation.

The three day conference on reducing bureaucracy is the first of its kind being held in conjunction with the OECD on the issue of governance since Israel's entry into the organization.

It was held against the background of awareness that has been created in recent years regarding the need to increase the efficiency of government services and significantly reduce the bureaucracy encountered by citizens, business-owners and various public bodies.

Prime Minister's Office Director-General Eyal Gabai told the joint Israeli Government-OECD conference that, "The Israeli Government has adopted a policy of struggling to reduce bureaucracy.

This is no mere theoretical issue but is seeing the implementation of genuine measures, the goal of which is to improve services and regulation for the people."
