Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics indicates: Israel's population is younger compared with Western countries

A survey published by Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics indicates that Israel's population stands at 7,797,400 people, a 1.9% growth spurt in the past year. Seventy five percent of Israelis are Jewish, 20% are Arab, and 5% are classified as “other".

Over the past year, the Jewish population grew by 1.7%, and the Arab population grew by 2.5%. Among the highlights of this year's population report: 64% of young men ages 25-29 are not married, and neither are 45% of women.

The average age of a mother at the birth of her first child is age 27 and one month; 28% of all Israelis are age 14 or younger, with the average in most developed countries 17%; and there were 14% more new immigrants living in Israel at the beginning of this year than in 2009.

The survey, released Sunday, also showed Israel's population is younger compared with Western countries. In 2010, 28 percent of the country's population was 14 years old or younger, compared to an average of 17 percent in Western countries. In 2010, 66,255 babies were born in Israel, showing a 3.2% increase from 2009.

About 200,000 people age 20 and over, or 5.4% of that age range, said they were "newly religious." Another 14% of Israel's Jews reported being less religious now than they were in the past, the report said.

40% of the population live in Central Israel - 24% in the Central District and 17% in the Tel Aviv District. 17% of the population lives in the Northern District and 14% of the population lives in the Southern District. 12% of the population lives in the Jerusalem District and 12% in the Haifa District, and 4% in Judea and Samaria.
