Ehud Olmert, Prime Minister elect and Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor signed last week a new import order, easing many restrictions on local importers

In a statement made by the Ministery of Industry & trade, the new import order will come into force 60 days after publication.

The newly signed import order will replace a previous import order which was enacted 30 years ago, and which had undergone successive amendments over the years.

A Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor spokesman said that under the new regulations tens of products would no longer require import licenses and other products that under the old regulations were subject for specific forms of marking on goods, would no longer be required to have special marking on them.

The new import order will exempt local importers from applying for import licenses for goods imported from countries like Pakistan, United Arab Emirates & Bangladesh that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

The new order will however require mandatory licensing for imported goods that could endanger public safety or can be used by terrorist groups.
