The Central Bureau of Statistics ( CBS ) said last week that trend data for recent months show a surge in exports to the USA and Asian countries.
Ststistical data released by the CBS show that imports, excluding diamonds, for the period January – September 2004 was us$ 23.2 billions. 39% came from the EU, 17% from the USA , 17% from Asia.
Exports excluding diamonds for the first nine months were us$17.6 billions. 33% were exported to the EU, 28% to the USA and 16% to Asia.
The import figures show that imports from the EU increased during August - September by annualized 2.4%, from the USA by 3.4% and from Asia by 6.6%. However, imports from the rest of the world was down by annualized 8.5%.
The export figures show fall in exports by 6.1% during the last three months. The fall in exports was mainly influenced by a 3.4% fall in exports to the EU. However, during the last three months exports to the USA was up 17.7% and to Asia by 30.1%. exports to the rest of the world was down by 19.2%.
