Motor vehicle imports in February 2007 totaled US$200m. Imported cars were up 35% from 26,275 to 35,450

The Israel Tax Authority published last week its periodic import review indicating that in February 2007 Israel's motor vehicle imports totaled 17,684 vehicles, 69% more than the 10,470 imported in February 2006.

The Israel Tax Authority provided import breakdown for motor vehicles and appliances as follows:
Motorcycles and motor scooters - up 14% from 585 to 667 in February 2007;
Trucks and tractors - up 20% from 435 vehicles to 521 in February 2007;
Refrigerators - up 48% from 10,560 units to 15.586;
Washing machines - up 24% from 18,073 units to 22,357;
Clothes dryers - up 13% from 3,250 units to 3,667;
DVDs - unchanged at 35,739 units;
Dish-washers - down 4% from 4,570 units to 4,387.
 
Imports of vehicles and appliances in January-February 2007, compared with the corresponding period included: cars up 35% from 26,275 to 35,450; motorcycles and motor scooters up 29% from 1,432 units to 1,846; and trucks and tractors - up 31% to 1,122.
 
Some 48 million cigarette cartons worth $20m were imported in January-February, 7% more than in the corresponding period.
