Figures published last week by the Israeli tourism industry show that incoming tourism in January broke all records, with 182,000 tourists visiting Israel in January, up 57% from the year before, when 116,000 arrived.

The previous tourism record had been January 2000, when almost 170,000 tourists visited Israel.

Shmuel Marom, chairman of the Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association noted that if no fighting do erupt on Israel's northern borders, it could dampen the present momentum, he admits.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) of the total visitors in January, 29,000 arrived by land, crossing from Egypt through Taba.
