The Central Bureau of Statistics published its annual foreign trade report noting that imports by country of origin (excl. diamonds) from China represented 12.4% of total imports (US$ 7.8 billion), as opposed to 3.2% in 2002. During the same period, the percentage of imports from the U.S.A. from total imports dropped from 19.0% in 2002 to 11.9% (US$ 7.5 billion) in 2013.

 

In 2013, the countries of origin from which imports were above two billion US$ were: U.S.A., China, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland and India. Imports by country of origin from Japan decreased by 31.8% since 2012, following a decrease of 26.6% between the years 2011-2012. Imports by country of origin from Spain increased 16.5% from 2012.

 

Imports by country of origin (excl. diamonds): In 2013, the main countries from which Israel imported goods were: China, U.S.A., Germany, Italy, Turkey, U.K, France, South Korea, Japan, Spain and Netherlands.

 

Imports from China (by country of origin) have grown from US$ 4.6 billion in 2009 to US$ 7.8 billion in 2013. Imports (by country of origin) from Turkey increased from US$ 1.5 billion in 2009 to US$ 2.5 billion in 2013.

 

Considerable decreases in imports by country of origin were registered for Japan (32.4%), U.S.A. (15.3%) and Korea (14.0%).

 

Differences between imports by country of origin and imports by country of purchase:

 

In 2013, the countries from which the gap between imports by country of purchase and imports by country of origin was more significant were: Switzerland, Netherlands, UK, Belgium and Hong Kong; and in the last years Singapore, Germany, Jordan, Sweden and Luxembourg.

 

Countries from which the gap between imports by country of origin in comparison with imports by country of purchase was more significant were: China, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, Brazil, Poland, Malaysia and U.S.A.
