The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reported that exports of goods from Japan in 2013 reached US$ 715.1 billion, a decrease of 10.5% compared to 2012.

 

The main groups of exported goods are: Motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport and Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles. The main countries to which Japan exported in 2013 were: China, USA and South Korea.

 

The imports of goods to Japan in 2013 reached US$833.2 billion, a decrease of 5.9% compared to 2012. The main groups of imported goods are: Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude and Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons. The main countries from which Japan imported in 2013 were: China, USA and Australia.

 

Trade in goods Israel-Japan: The trade deficit in goods between Israel and Japan decreased from US$1,343.6 million in 2008 to US$390.9 million in 2013.

 

Data show that exports from Israel to Japan decreased from US$883.0 million to US$ 727.8 million between the years 2008-2013, imports from Japan to Israel decreased from US$2,226.6 million to US$ 1,118.7 million in the same period.

 

Imports from Japan represented 1.6% of total Israeli imports in 2013 and exports to Japan represented 1.1% of total Israeli exports in 2013. A deficit in the trade in goods in the first ten months of 2014 amounted to US$379.7 million, US$455.6 million in annual terms

 

Exports from Israel to Japan: A significant decrease in export of goods from Israel to Japan was recorded in export of “Machinery and mechanical appliances and computer equipment” (Chapter 84), which decreased by 51.1% from US$182 million to US$89 million between the years of 2008-2013.

 

Export of “Electrical machinery and equipment, sound and TV recorders and reproducers; parts.” (Chapter 85), which decreased by 37.3% from US$ 126 million to US$79 million in the same period.

 

Export of “Pearls, precious stones, precious metals imitation jewelry and coins” (Chapter 71), which decreased by 35.2% from US$91 million to US$59 million between the years of 2008-2013 and export of “Optical, photographic, measuring and medical instruments” (Chapter 90), which decreased by 3.4%.

 

Imports from Japan to Israel A significant decrease in the import of goods from Japan to Israel was recorded in “Vehicles and their parts” (Chapter 87), which decreased by 60.3% from US$1,197 million to US$475 million between the years 2008-2013.

 

Import of “Machinery and mechanical appliances and computer equipment” (Chapter 84), which decreased by 67.6% from US$556 million to US$180 million in the same period.

 

However, an increase was recorded in the import of “Plastics and articles thereof” (Chapter 39), which increased by 48.8%, from US$43 million to US$64 million between the years 2008-2013.

 

Export and import of goods from Israel to Japan by exporters and importers:

Over the period from 2008 to 2013, there was a decrease of 1% in the number of Israeli exporters that traded with Japan. In 2013 there were 1,239 exporters who exported goods to Japan, compared to 1,255 in 2008 32.0% of the total exports in 2013 were done by top ten exporters, compared to 44.0% in 2012

 

The number of importers over the period of 2008-2013 decreased by 42% .In 2013 there were 3,633 importers who imported goods from Japan to Israel, compared to 6,241 in 2008, 15 out of them imported over US$10 million each. Over the period of 2008-2013 the number of importers who imported less than US$100,000 decreased by 44%. 51.0% of the total imports in 2013, were done by top ten importers, compared to 72.0% in 2008.
