Elyezer Shkedy, the outgoing El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. CEO, said at the Israel Tourism and Travel Agents Association annual conference that, "Israel has the potential to have not five million tourists, but 25 million, and we should not be ashamed or cynical about planning for this."
In a farewell speech Shkedy said "El Al is the civil wings of the State of Israel and of Jews worldwide, and I have had the honor of heading this company."
Shkedy announced his resignation on December 1, 2013, and it will take effect in a few days. No successor has yet been appointed.
Shkedy has headed El Al for four years since completing his term as commander of the Israel Air Force. He became CEO of El Al in January 2010.
