Total combined export of polished and rough diamonds from Israel rose by more than US$175 million in 2014 as compared with the previous year.

 

Israeli diamond exports were slightly higher in 2014 despite the challenges faced by the industry. Exports in 2014 totaled approximately US$9.324 billion, compared with US$9.166 billion in 2013.

 

According to Diamond Controller at the Ministry of Economy Shmuel Mordechai the United States continued to be Israel’s major market for polished diamonds, accounting for 38.0% of the market, with exports of US$2.371 billion.

 

Hong Kong was the next largest market with 29.74% of exports or US$1.864 billion. Belgium accounted for 8.5% or US$532 million; Switzerland accounted for 6.47% with exports of US$405 million. England accounted for 3.74%, totaling US$234 million.

 

Net polished diamond exports for 2014 totaled US$6.269 billion, a small increase of 0.6% over 2013. Net rough diamond exports totaled US$3.061 billion, a net increase of 4.2% over 2013.

 

Net polished diamond import figures in 2014 totaled US$4.514 billion, as against US$4.309 billion in 2013, an increase of 4.8%. Net rough diamond import figures in 2014 totaled US$4.022 billion, as against US$3.990 billion in 2013, an increase of 0.8%.
