Israeli Ambassador to Peru Modi Ephraim said recently that Israel is hoping to start discussing a free trade agreement with Peru this year.

According to Ephraim, Israeli officials have already held talks with Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, as well as representatives from ProInversion (Agencia de Promoción de la Inversión Privada).

ProInversion is Peru's private investment promotion agency which has the mission to boost the country's competitiveness and sustainable development.

The Israeli ambassador said that a free trade agreement between both countries would bolster trade and investment, principally in the agriculture and energy sectors. Ephraim added that Israel is aiming to double its investments in Peru by 2015, which would bring it to $2 billion.
