Israel's unemployment rate continued to drop in August, according to data released last Wednesday by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The CBS found that 5.6% of Israelis were unemployed in August 2011, a drop of 0.1% from July 2011 and of 0.9% compared to August 2010.

The Central Bureau of Statistics revised the June and July unemployment rate upward from 5.4% to 5.7%.

The term “unemployed” was used to describe those who are capable of work but work for less than one hour per week on average despite actively seeking employment during the time period in question, and have reported their unemployed status to the Labor Bureau.
