Union threatens general strike over pensions

If the strike will begin it will cover the Israeli public sector with airports, ports, government offices, and post offices all being shut down
 
The Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) declare last week a general labor dispute. In a press release the Histadrut's outlined its reason for the declaration: "The refusal of the Ministry of Finance to provide a safety net for pensions savings and to properly deal with the problem of layoffs”.

According to the law, after the mandatory two-week cooling off period, the Histadrut can declare a strike.
 
The general strike will, if go ahead, cover the Israeli public sector with airports, ports, government offices, and post offices all being shut down.
 
Ofer Eini, the head of the Histadrut, added that: "in addition to declaring a labor dispute, the Histadrut would push legislation for a pensions savings safety net and for preventing layoffs. It will also seek to promote its joint economic plan with the Manufacturers Association of Israel”.
