Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz has decided to raise the speed limit on several highways from 110 kph to 120 kph.
The speed limit will be 110 kph on Highway 1 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, on Highway 431 between Modiin and Rishon L'Tzion, and on Highway 4 between Rishon L'Tzion and Ashdod. On Road 2 - the Coastal Highway - the speed limit will be raised from 100 kph to 110 kph between the Caesarea and Atlit Interchanges.
At a later stage, the speed limit will also rise all the way to Haifa. The speed limit on Highway 6, Israel’s north-south private toll freeway, will be raised from 110 kmh to 120 kmh.
The change is to take place in coming weeks and new speed limit signs are set to be posted in the coming days.
The new speed limits were determined following two years of study by a committee of experts on traffic patterns, finance, and traffic safety.
